The purpose of the House System at Charis Classical Academy is to enrich the culture of the upper schools (5th-12th grade) by facilitating connections between older and younger students while cultivating a community of discipleship, service, and servant leadership in accordance with Philippians 2:2-8. Each of our six houses is composed of both students and faculty who walk alongside our student house leaders to promote the flourishing of all of our Logic/Rhetoric students.

Koinonia means “fellowship” in Greek and once a month CCA sets aside a special time to fellowship together as a Grammar school and Logic & Rhetoric School. We sing our monthly hymn, listen to recitations, celebrate students receiving commendations of character and virtue with Owl Awards, and discuss a topic from our annual theme in order to grow together, forming our culture and community.

We seek to cultivate a love of learning both in and outside of the classroom . This includes many regular rhythms within our classrooms such as nature hikes, use of manipulatives, chants & songs, activities, and games, as well as electives for logic and rhetoric students ranging from deep dives into literature, theologians, or current events to learning common arts such as printmaking, gardening, or mechanics.

We believe that students interested in a variety of activities become interesting, well rounded people. Developing wisdom and virtue comes not only through academics, but also through performance opportunities, athletics, and clubs to promote various skills and interests. Charis Students of all ages have various opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities.

The fine arts are an essential part of our CCA community. Students from kindergarten to rhetoric school develop an appreciation and understanding of art, music, and theater through both their courses and extracurricular activities. Our primary goal is to cultivate a love of the arts, an understanding of its influence on history and culture, and to develop basic skills through various mediums and techniques. They look at great artists, musicians, and performers of the past while also enjoying creation of original pieces.
